Record year for organ donations
More than 33,000 people received a lifesaving transplant from someone who had died
ROCHESTER, Minn (WKBT) – 2020 was bleak for many, but generosity of others was the glimmer of light many people needed.
Last year, there was a record number of deceased organ donations in the US.
According to the United Network for Organ sharing, more than 33,000 people received a lifesaving transplant from someone who had died.
When a loved one dies too early, life may seem to stop.
Donating organs is a way to continue helping other people, even after someone passes.
“So many people are waiting for organs. And this is such an important thing for people to think about and for people to consider how that impacts people lives and saves their lives. This is the ultimate gift of life,” said Dr. Timucin Taner the Surgical Director of the Mayo Clinic Liver Transplant Program.
There are more than 100,000 people currently on transplant lists in the United States.
