Today's Almanac

Good evening… it was a bit of tricky commute this morning after anywhere between a half an inch to nearly three inches of snow fell yesterday afternoon and night. The result was a layer of snow and ice on many area roads. The good news is a mix of sun and clouds helped clear the roads by early afternoon.

Tonight's Forecast

Tonight's Lows North

Tonight's Lows South

As we head into tonight, look for a partly cloudy and cold night. Overnight lows will range from the lower teens in the north to near 20 in the south. These readings could put some locations in record to near record low territory. As for La Crosse, our forecast low for tonight is 19. The record low for tonight is 17, which was set in 1976. So, it will be a close one. Remember, our average lows should be in the middle 30s. If there is any good news, winds will remain nearly calm overnight. Nonetheless, you will want to make sure you and the kids dress in full winter gear tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow's Forecast

Tomorrow's Highs South

Tomorrow's Highs North

Fortunately, high pressure will bring plenty of sunshine to the area tomorrow. The exception may be in the far north, where a few more clouds might be found. However, that sunshine will do little to warm us up. Look for another chilly day as highs only manage the lower 30s in the north and upper 30s in the south.

With high pressure overhead tomorrow night, expect a clear sky. Fortunately, it shouldn’t be quite as cold as tonight. We can expect lows in the upper teens to middle 20s.

Wednesday looks dry and, more importantly, warmer! We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the middle to upper 40s.

8 Day Forecast

Looking ahead… dry and increasingly warmer temperatures are in store for the area as we round out the workweek and head into next weekend. Expect partly to mostly sunny days and clear to partly cloudy nights.

Temperatures will hover in the middle to upper 40s Thursday and Friday, then make a run for the lower 50s Saturday (Halloween). It will be rather breezy Saturday. A weak cool front will knock us back into the middle and upper 40s Sunday, but have no worries as we will climb back into the lower to middle 50s for early next week.

Overnight lows through the period will start in the middle 20s early in the week, then moderate into the lower to middle 30s for the weekend into next week.

I don’t know about you, but a spell of quieter and warmer weather sounds good at this point.

Have a great night, but bundle up! -WKBT Cory Malles
