Record temps could hit Iowa on Tuesday

The National Weather Service says possible record-breaking temperatures and high humidity are on the way for much of Iowa.

Rob DeRoy of the National Weather Service in Johnston says Tuesday’s forecast for Des Moines is 90 degrees. That would tie a record for May 10 last set in 1911.

Ottumwa is expected to hit 89 degrees, which would tie the record set in 1934.

Mason City could approach its May 10 mark of 89 degrees set in 1987.

DeRoy says he expects many folks to be surprised by Tuesday’s heat and humidity because it’s rare for early May.

Temperatures are expected to start dropping by Wednesday, and DeRoy says the weekend will see conditions more like April than May.
