Record-setting goaltender Abby Severson named finalist for Jessie Vetter award
Viroqua girls hockey senior goaltender Abby Severson is one of five finalists for the 2020 Jessie Vetter Award, given to the top goalie.
Severson set a Wisconsin high school single-game record with 108 saves in her team’s 2-1, six-overtime loss to Black River Falls. This year she has saved 93 percent of shots and recorded four shots.
Black River Falls goalie Josie Mathison, who won the award back in 2017, is also a finalist for this year with a save percentage just under 93 percent and three shutouts.
The winner is announced next Friday, March 6.
