Recent rain helping boost mosquito population
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The warmer weather and recent rain can make your backyard a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Mosquitoes hatch in standing water, especially in smaller containers or in old tires.
La Crosse County’s vector control specialist says prevention is the key to keep yourself from getting bit this summer.
“If you have unrimmed tires, I would say keep them covered or drill holes, or something, so the water can’t sit in there. Those are the ones that breed in the containers, are the one that are most likely to carry diseases like West Nile and and Encephalitis,” said Joey Writz.
Another way to prevent mosquitoes from hatching is throwing away any soda cans or open water bottles you have around your property.
