Read to Success program prepares for summer

Educators in our area are wrapping up the school year, while hoping to keep kids learning throughout the summer months.

More than 3,000 books were packed Wednesday morning, as part of the Read to Success program.

The program is a partnership between the La Crosse School District and the United Way.

The books will be distributed to students from seven participating elementary schools in La Crosse.

Each student will receive three books as well as tips to help parents encourage their child to read.

“And the reason we do that is that one of the issues that students struggle with is summer reading loss when they don’t have access to school, so this puts the books right in the homes right at the finger tips of the kids and the families,” said Rob Tyvoll of the La Crosse School District.

The program is funded by more than $10,000 in grants and donations.
