Radon Action Week raises awareness for dangerous gas
Health Officials: Protect your family with an at-home test kit
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse County officials are encouraging everyone to protect themselves from a dangerous and naturally occurring gas that’s prominent in our area.
Radon is found in soil and is more deadly than carbon monoxide. It has been detected in homes in every county in the US.
This week is Radon Action Week. Local health officials say protecting yourself and your family starts with an at-home test.
“About one out of five homes in this area do have elevated Radon, so it’s really important to test then follow up and fix those homes,” said Jim Steinhoff, of the La Crosse County Health Department.
Test kits can be purchased at the La Crosse county health department. They range in cost from $10 to $20.
