Queen of the Mississippi docks at Riverside Park, La Crosse
LA CROSSE, WI — It’s quite a sight, the towering Queen of the Mississippi, making a stop at Riverside Park.
The two-year old steamboat docked at the park on Sunday while passengers explored downtown La Crosse.
The boat traveled from Saint Louis and can’t make it all the way up to the Twin Cities because of low water levels.
The La Crosse Historical Society partners with the Queen to help passengers find their way around La Crosse during the stop.
Organizers said it’s neat to hear just how impressed the passengers are with the city and all it has to offer.
“One of the things that I really love is when the passengers come back to the boat. I hear so many comments about how much they love La Crosse. They say many of the people in La Crosse are so friendly, the cleanliness of Riverside Park, the clean neighborhoods. I’ve heard all of this and many of them say they want to come back,” said George Italiano, a researcher with the La Crosse Historical Society.
The Queen was supposed to make more stops in La Crosse this year, but high water levels kept it from making it this far up the Mississippi.21645532
