Public learns more about Hwy. 43 reconstruction project in Winona
WINONA, Minn. (WKBT)- A major stretch of highway in Winona is set to be reconstructed, and Tuesday night the public got a look at preliminary designs.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation held an open house on the Highway 43 or Mankato Avenue reconstruction project.
The area between Sarnia Street and East Lake Boulevard south of highway 61 in Winona is scheduled to be redone in 2022.
Project leaders with MNDOT have been talking with residents and business owners over the past few months to find out what issues are happening along the highway.
“Some of the pedestrian crossing times were not enough for pedestrians, there were safety issues for ‘peds,’ not very good accommodations for bikers and then from a traffic standpoint, it’s kind of a congestion as well as safety issue,” said MNDOT Project Manager Chad Hanson.
MNDOT officials presented their recommended alternative plan to the public at the meeting.
