‘Hoops 4 Hope’ fundraiser switches course to give domestic violence victims a line to help
Businesses are being asked to donate to help sponsor the program.
LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – Instead of shooting Hoops 4 Hope this year, a local fundraiser is helping victims of domestic violence with a direct line to help.
Coulee Region Moving Services usually holds a basketball tournament fundraiser.
Because of the pandemic, they were unable to have the same event.
This year, the group wanted to give a direct line to the help people need.
With the help of local businesses, they are donating 12 cell phones to New Horizons.
The phones will be given to people who need to escape violence in the home.
The new phones will also allow victims to escape without worrying if their abuser is tracking them.
Each phone cost $50 a month, totaling to $333 a month for all 12 phone lines.
Local businesses are being asked to donate to help sponsor the program.
“Small Businesses and school districts are the heart and backbone of every community, so when we all come together and find ways to work together, really great things can happen,” said Colin Luz, the Owner of Coulee Region Moving Services.
