Precautions to avoid getting sick while traveling

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A lot of people are traveling this time a year and spring break is only a few weeks away for some.

With high flu activity and the increasing number of coronavirus cases, health experts say there are some precautions you should take before going on vacation.

First, make sure you’re in good health and vaccinated.

Carrying hand sanitizer and wearing a mask on the plane is also recommended.

In addition, make sure you’re practicing good hygiene habits, like washing your hands and coughing into your elbow.

But health experts say don’t let the fear of getting sick ruin your vacation.

“Be smart when you go out there, but I think you shouldn’t stop yourself from traveling and having those experiences. Just make sure you’re protecting yourself and everybody else,” said Olivia Thiel, M.D., Mayo Clinic Health System.
