Post office reopens nearly six months after flooding
VIOLA, Wis. (WKBT) — A post office that was forced to close after devastating floods this summer is finally able to reopen.
The US postal service said the Viola post office at 117 West Commercial Street is resuming full operations.
That includes PO Box, street delivery and retail services. PO Box mail service returned on December 15, 2018.
Retail window hours will be Monday through Friday 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. with a lunch closure between 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Saturday 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The PO Box Lobby will be open 24 hours.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations, according to a press release.
It’s been almost six months since the flooding destroyed homes and businesses in Western Wisconsin.
