Positive COVID-19 tests postpone Brewers’ home opener vs. Cards

Saturday game remains as scheduled; doubleheader set for Sunday

The Athletic reports that two St. Louis Cardinals pitchers have tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the Brewers’ Friday home opener against them to be postponed.

The MLB has decided that Saturday’s game between the Brewers and Cardinals will proceed as scheduled, and the teams will play a doubleheader starting Sunday at 1:10 p.m. MLB and the players’ union agreed Thursday that doubleheaders beginning Aug. 1 will be seven-inning games.

The two NL Central clubs can add their names to the Marlins, Phillies, Yankees, Orioles, Nationals, and Blue Jays as teams who’ve had their schedules affected by COVID-19.
