‘Pony Up With Police’ in Mauston honors murdered La Crosse woman

Sherry Hougom hosts event in part in memory of her daughter, Sara, who was slain in 2012

MAUSTON, Wis. (WKBT) — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse saddled up with police Tuesday for the “Pony Up With Police” event.

Sherry Hougom of La Crosse hosted the event in honor of her daughter, Sara, who was murdered in 2012, and her father-in- law, Big Mike Earley. Area police officers joined to promote positivity and drug and violence prevention.

“I kind of started uniting with them,” Sherry said. “We work on prevention. The police officers and myself, we have the same mission: a safer and brighter future.”

The event, which took place at Woodside Ranch in Mauston, included activities such as horse back riding, carriage rides and a grill out for lunch.

Hougom said she also uses horses in hopes of sharing the love for them that her father-in-law had.
