Police urge safety for meeting people for online exchanges
HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) — Police in our area are reminding online shoppers to be safe when meeting someone to pick up their online purchases.
The reminder comes as three people were charged Friday in killing a pregnant woman in Illinois.
The woman had gone to a home with promises of baby clothes and strollers.
The Holmen Police Department has an area outside the station where community members can make online transactions.
No matter where you live, there are ways to keep yourself safe.
“Public places are often encouraged to keep these types of enchanges. If there is someone that has ill intent to commit a crime upon a person, they may be less likely to engage in that exchange if it is at a local police department,” said Holmen Police officer Cody Spears.
Police say no matter where you arrange a meeting to sell things, you should always be cautious and bring someone along with you.
