Police identify La Crosse man killed in shooting
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Police on Monday identified the man shot and killed over the weekend as Ernest Knox, 36, of La Crosse.
Knox was shot on the 700 block of Rose Street just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the La Crosse Police Department. He succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
“This continues to be an active investigation. At this time, this does not appear to be a random act of violence. La Crosse Police will update the community as the investigation continues,” said the department in a statement.
The Sports Nut, a local business in the area says there are safety concerns. Manager Chris Stopla says increased police presence is needed in the area.
“A lot of times we see the police are focused on downtown, looking to pick up drunk drivers, things like that. We really need to focus on all of the neighborhoods,” said Stopla.
La Crosse police are asking anyone with information on this case to contact the department at (608) 782-7575. Anonymous tips can go to the La Crosse Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 784-TIPS (8477) or online at www.lacrossecrimestoppers.com.
