Police Department plans to increase patrols for New Year’s Eve
Goal is to deter people from drinking and driving
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The La Crosse Police Department is prepared for a busy New Year’s Eve.
They’ll have extra patrols on that night throughout the city, with some dedicated to the downtown area. Their goal is to deter people from drinking and driving.
The department says they see an increase in drunk driving on the holiday and hope this year people will have a plan that doesn’t include getting behind the wheel.
“Designate a driver if you’re going to be out drinking, also make use of the Tavern League Safe Ride Program, stay with another person, have a plan, where you’re going to meet if you get separated, keep your cell phone and just plan ahead, make a plan to not overindulge,” said La Crosse Police Department Officer Lisa Barrix.
Thousands of bars across the state participate in the state funded safe ride program.
