‘Point in Time’ count reveals homeless numbers in La Crosse continue to rise
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The biannual ‘Point in Time’ count offers a snapshot of the people staying out on the streets overnight.
On Thursday, July 23, staff from several organizations involved in the Coulee Collaborative to End Homelessness, as well as some volunteers, looked in alleyways, parking lots and other areas to see how many people were unsheltered.
Seventy-one individuals were found sleeping outside or in vehicles last week. This does not include those staying in emergency shelters or those possibly staying with friends or family.
In July of 2019, 57 unsheltered individuals were located during the ‘Point in Time’ count. In July of 2018, 33 people living without shelter were located.
