Plenty Of Sun… But Another Cold Day
Warmer Friday & This Weekend
Thursday’s Forecast High: 17F / Tonight’s Low: 5F…
It was another bitterly cold morning across the region. Temps were in the -0s and -10s in most spots, but our traditional colder spots north/east (like Sparta & BRF) were in the -20F to -30F range. Fortunately, winds were calm or light… so wind chills were not much colder. But either way you slice it, it’s a bitterly cold start to the day and you’ll want to bundle up this morning.
High pressure will keep the region dry today with plenty of sunshine. However, it will continue to be cold with highs only in the teens. In fact, today’s highs would be more typical of overnight lows this time of year. Our average high for today is 33F, so we will be well short of that.
Tonight will be clear and cold, but not as cold as the past two nights. Most spots should see lows tonight in the single digits above zero. However, traditional colder spots north/east could drop into the -0s. One reason it won’t be quite as cold are southerly winds around 5-15 mph. Of course the trade off will be wind chills in the 0F to -20F range.
Lots of sun again on Friday, but it will be much warmer with highs in the 30s. However, it will also be rather breezy with S/SW winds 10-20 and gusts to around 30 mph. This will make it feel chillier.
Looking Ahead… A warming trend will continue into the weekend with highs around 40F Saturday, then low 40s Sunday. Expect plenty of sunshine Saturday, with clouds mixed in on Sunday.
Forecast models are struggling with how far north a storm system will track early next week. As of now, many models have the heaviest precipitation staying to our south, but there’s still a decent chance our area will get clipped with lighter amounts. We could see some light snow or a light mix on Monday with temps above freezing, then a chance of mainly light snow Tuesday and Wednesday. Stay tuned over the next several days as forecast models get a better handle on the track this system will take.
Next Thursday and Friday look dry at this point, but also colder with high temps back in the 20s.
Have a good Thursday! -Bill Graul
