Mix Of Clouds & Sun Today
Periodic Rain Chances Through Saturday
Tuesday’s Forecast High: 53F / Tonight’s Low: 42F…
We started Monday with some light rain and snow in most areas, but just a trace of rain & snow was recorded at the La Crosse airport. More snow fell north, with 0.8″ falling in Eau Claire. Otherwise, it was a gloomy day with clouds and temps a bit below average. In fact, 9 of the last 10 days… the high temp has been below average in La Crosse.
Clouds persisted overnight and we will see plenty of clouds again today, but expect some sunshine mixed in as well. There will also be some patchy fog this morning, especially in parts of SE Minnesota & NE Iowa. Even with clouds at times today, temps should rise to near or slightly above average… with highs in the upper 40s to low-mid 50s.
The approach of a warm front could spark a few light rain showers or sprinkles late today into this evening. A weak boundary will then slide east/southeast across the region tonight, bringing a slight chance of additional light rain showers. Lows tonight will be in the upper 30s to low 40s.
More clouds on Wednesday. An area of low pressure will move in from the Northern Plains and bring a good chance of rain during the afternoon and into Wednesday night. The rain could even mix with or change to snow for a time in northern parts of the viewing area, especially near and north of I-94. Highs tomorrow will range from the mid-upper 40s (north) to the low-mid 50s. Some areas could see around .50″ of rain or more by late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. The precipitation should quickly taper or shift east after midnight.
Looking Ahead… Unfortunately, the latest forecast data is starting to come into better agreement in keeping the region mostly cloudy and unsettled right through at least Saturday. Expect slight chances for mainly rain showers Thursday and Friday, but I’m not seeing all day washouts. The rain could mix with snow during the overnight and early morning hours in places where temps get close to freezing. Expect highs ranging from the mid 40s to low 50s.
A stronger system now looks like it will track far enough north to bring a chance of rain on Saturday, perhaps a mix in some areas. Sunday is now looking mainly dry, but still mostly cloudy. Highs this weekend will remain in the mid 40s to low 50s.
Milder to start next week with highs in the upper 50s on Monday and Tuesday. Most of Monday will be dry with partly sunny skies, then just isolated rain showers are possible Monday night into Tuesday. Rain chances increase again around the middle of next week with highs dropping closer to 50F.
Have a good Tuesday… and think sunshine! -Bill Graul
