LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – One thing about chess is that it is the same in every language.

Local chess students in La Crosse played matches with students in our sister city of Dubna, Russia.

Thirteen students from Logan High School and UW-La Crosse held their international friendly match with about 20 students in Dubna virtually over Zoom.

The opportunity allowed the students to share a unique experience, while playing a game they all enjoy.

“I think it’s really wonderful for our cities to connect with each other, make friends, and we can learn about each other’s cultures,” said Daria Richardson, one of the chess players from UW-La Crosse.

The club plans to meet monthly through the summer.
