Planning ahead with flood insurance may help reduce problems for homeowners

Flooding could also be an issue for homeowners.

Flooding is the most common natural disaster in insurance claims across the U.S.

But it is not covered by standard homeowners insurance policies.

Federal flood insurance policies must be in place 30 days prior to a claim.

The wait time can be shorter for private insurance, taking only 15 days.

Planning ahead can save you headaches later.

“Public is with FEMA, so if FEMA doesn’t declare a natural disaster, they could deny your claim so it’s best to explore your options,” said Morgan Kuntz, Producer of Preferred Insurance.
