“Pinwheels for Prevention” placed in Burns Park to raise awareness about child abuse
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – “Pinwheels for Prevention” is helping raise awareness about child abuse in our community.
An annual activity, Friday the Coulee Region Child Abuse Prevention Task Force placed pinwheels throughout Burns Park on Seventh Steet, across from the public library.
“We like to do it on a very visible street so when people drive by they’re reminded that, yes, we live in an amazing community, but we also have abuse and neglect happening,” said Chairperson of the task force Nicole Milliren.
The pinwheels are a visual representation of a worrisome issue that often happens behind closed doors.
But Milliren said there are signs of child abuse you may be able to pick up on.
For example, abused children may not have any friends, or they wear the same clothes for multiple days.
To report child abuse in our area, visit the La Crosse Co. Human Services Department.
If you see something, say something.
