Pilots with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds visit La Crosse
The team will be part of this year's Deke Slayton Airfest
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Pilots with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds were in La Crosse Thursday.
The headliner for this year’s Deke Slayton Airfest gave people a glimpse of what to expect come on August 8 and 9.
There will be six F-16’s taking off, reaching speeds of up to 500 miles per hour. It takes a lot of practice and more than 50 crew members to make the show possible.
“It’s not just bringing six aircraft out and six pilots and putting on a wonderful airshow. It involves rigorous training 365 days out of the year, but it also involves a ton of ground personnel that can support the aircraft and the pilots,” said Maj. Scott Petz.
The Thunderbirds last performed in La Crosse about 10 years ago.
