Phase one of La Crosse Vietnam War Memorial underway
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A Holmen High School grad’s special idea is getting closer to becoming a reality.
In 2016, then 16-year-old Jordan Briskey went to the City of La Crosse with a proposal to build a Vietnam War Memorial in Veterans Freedom Park.
Now, the city is in its first phase of the project – planned and designed by Briskey.
It includes a wall inscribed with the names of the 1,239 Wisconsinites killed in Vietnam, including 28 from La Crosse.
The project is being funded through donations, but it’s been hard to raise money over the last year due to the pandemic.
Briskey is now in college but said he’s still seeing the project through to completion.
“I’m not going to give up. We’re still working on getting funds so we can honor and remember these great veterans,” Briskey said Monday during a gathering at the future site of the memorial.
