Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine eligibility expansion called “exciting” by UW Health staff
The FDA approved and emergency use approval for the vaccine for those 12 to 15
MADISON, Wis. (WKBT) – Health leaders in Wisconsin say the expansion of vaccine eligibility is “exciting”.
17 million more Americans are now eligible to receive the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine.
That follows a ruling late Monday afternoon by the FDA.
“If we’re really trying to achieve broad herd immunity, certainly trying to get to over 80 percent immunizations, that’s 22 percent of the population. So until you can immunize them, you’re never even going to get close to the 80 or 90 percent,” UW Health pediatric infections disease professor Dr. James Conway.
The emergency use authorization clears the way for administering the vaccine to kids ages 12 to 15 years old.
