Person will be charged in La Crosse Homicide Investigation
LA CROSSE, Wis. — The boyfriend of a La Crosse woman found dead in a Vernon County lake is expected to be charged with first degree intentional homicide.
38-year-old Erik Sackett of La Crosse is expected to be charged Thursday in the death of 35-year-old Erin Somvilai (previously identified as Erin Bushek).
Somvilai’s body was found by a fisherman on June 17 in Runge Hollow Lake.
The La Crosse Police Department says the case moved forward as a homicide investigation after they found the suspect used concrete blocks to weigh Somvilai’s body down so that she would not surface and be located.
Sackett was interviewed early in the missing person investigation and provided statements to investigators which the police department said were later determined to be inaccurate.
Sackett has been held in the La Crosse County Jail on an unrelated parole warrant since June 12.
