Person of interest taken into custody in storage unit fire
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Shelby police identified a person of interest and took an individual into custody for suspicion of unlawful handling of burning materials in connection to a fire at the Edwards Storage units in the Town of Shelby on Tuesday afternoon.
Heavy smoke and fire were reported from coming from 2806 28th Street South at about 11 a.m.
Crews from the La Crosse and Shelby Fire Departments arrived. The fire was contained to one building, but multiple storage units were destroyed.
The Shelby Fire Department told News 8 the fire likely started in a storage unit the northeast corner of the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The La Crosse Police Department and Tri-State Ambulance also assisted at the incident.
