People dressed in ugly sweaters for annual fun run
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Nearly 500 people wore their ugliest sweater for a cause.
The Ugly Sweater 5k kicked off on Saturday evening at Myrick Park.
The route goes through the marsh, which is lit with holiday lights, and ends at the Rotary Lights.
Awards are given out for ugliest sweater and best time in each age group.
The event raises money for La Crosse Rotary Club-After Hours.
They put the funds toward projects like the Hixon Forest restoration.
Organizers say the 5k is a success because of the community.
“It takes about 140 volunteers to pull this thing off in one day. We plan for it the full year, but we get lots of people to come out and help out with things like stations along the course. It just really brings everyone together and kicks of the holiday season with a lot of fun,” said Brandon Harris, President of Rotary Club-After Hours.
Runners were welcomed with hot chocolate, cookies, and live entertainment at the finish line.
This is the 6th year the event has been held.
