Patients delaying treatments for stroke symptoms during COVID

ROCHESTER, Minn. (WKBT) – Health care providers continue to have concerns about patients that are delaying treatment for stroke symptoms during the pandemic.

The blood supply to the brain is compromised during a stroke, and brain cells begin to die in minutes.

That’s why things that may seem simple, turn into something very difficult.

“Symptoms of stroke typically include the sudden difficulty of doing something. In other words sudden weakness in the face, arms or legs often times in combination,” Mayo Clinic-Rochester neurologist Dr. Robert Brown Jr. said.

The American Stroke Association says stroke symptoms can be recognized by remembering *FAST*.

F for face drooping.
A for arm weakness.
S for speech difficulty.
And, T for time to call 9-1-1.
