Past of area parks heard during Voices from the Past cemetery walk
WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) — This year is the 100 th anniversary of Winona County’s largest park, Whitewater State Park, and people could learn its story at this year’s Voices from the Past cemetery walk.
The Winona County Historical Society hosts the walk, which was focused on the history of area parks this year.
Guides took guests around the Woodlawn Cemetery. Actors at six stations played out scenes illustrating how people buried in the cemetery had a role in developing and naming parks.
Jennifer Weaver, a museum educator with the Winona County Historical Society, said this is one of her favorite events the historical society puts on.
“I love fall and I love sharing history with people, so it’s kind of that perfect combination. Even before I started working with the Historical Society, I actually was a guide and volunteered with the event,” said Weaver.
Funds raised from tickets sales go to help the Historical Society and Woodlawn Cemetery.
