Panthers eyeing playoff run as West Salem heads back to Coulee Conference

After 8 seasons in the Mississippi Valley Conference, the West Salem football team is heading back to the Coulee Conference.

After defeating Prescott at home in the first round of the playoffs last season, West Salem came up short in Level 2, falling to Northwestern. The Panthers will have roughly 8 returning players on both sides of the ball in 2022, as West Salem looks to return to the postseason.

“We’re excited about new opponents, new competition, and that just brings new juices flowing as we need to prepare for teams that we’re not sure about,” Panthers head coach Justin Jehn said.

“It felt good going against those big schools last year and beating most of them,” senior quarterback Brett McConkey added. “But going against schools our size and competing against schools that are more like us, it’s gonna be cool.”

The Panthers’ first test comes Friday, August 19th as West Salem opens up its 2022 campaign on the road against Onalaska.
