Optometrists: Protect your eyes from UV rays

Even wearing a baseball cap can help protect your eyes

It’s not just your skin you have to protect from the sun.

Area health officials want to remind you that you should also be protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays. Those rays are at their strongest during this time of year.

Optometrists say exposure to UV rays can create a number of vision problems.

“Cataracts would be one, and some people potentially it’s thought that it may affect their retina and be a factor to macular degeneration. You know, if you’re squinting, you should be wearing your sunglasses. It’s as simple as that is,” said Gundersen Health System Doctor of Optometry John Sterling.
