Operation Riverwatch looking for volunteers for the summer
Students heading home after school year
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Directors of a different kind of operation hope to continue keeping people safe near the Mississippi River in La Crosse this summer.
Operation Riverwatch typically ends at the end of each school year as volunteers head home from college. The new program director wants to change that by asking students staying in the area, and residents, to volunteer.
Program volunteers walk along Riverside Park to make sure no one falls in the river at night. Operation Riverwatch’s director says the program offers a vital service to those enjoying La Crosse’s downtown area.
“Being out there, it’s not just a personal endeavor, it’s something that really provides for the community and just being able to show that through volunteering for Operation Riverwatch is really essential,” said Operation Riverwatch Director Daniel Potter.
If you would like to volunteer for Operation Riverwatch this summer, contact the La Crosse Police Department at (608) 785-5962.
