Open enrollment opening soon for public schools in Wisconsin

Students in Wisconsin can go to the school of their choice, thanks to a statewide program.

The open enrollment period opens Monday for school children across Wisconsin.

Open enrollment is a tuition-free way for parents to apply for their children to attend a public school in a school district other than the one in which they live.

Last year, nearly 61,000 students transferred through open enrollment.

La Crosse superintendent Randy Nelson says the program is about choices.

“Because of the options that we have and our commitment to making sure that we delivery curriculum and we support children in a way that one size doesn’t fit all that it’s attractive for some,” said Randy Nelson, School District of La Crosse Superintendent.

The open enrollment period is open through April 30th.

Applications are available on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s website
