Online tax changes discussed at forum in La Crosse
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Changes are coming for online shopping and area businesses are preparing.
Starting October 1st, companies that sell online must begin collecting the sales tax for each state and county where their customers live.
At an online sales tax forum hosted by the La Crosse Chamber of Commerce Tuesday, local business owners learned about what they must do to prepare.
While the Chamber supports the change, local business owners say they have a lot to plan for.
“Which state, which customers, down to the county, down to the city tax. So we not only sell on our website, but we also sell on Amazon as well so there’s a lot to juggle around,” said Chad La Fleur, Marking Director with Supreme Graphics.
There are about 10,000 sales tax jurisdictions in the United States.
