One person taken to hospital after fire in Onalaska
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) – Firefighters battled bitterly cold temperatures at a duplex fire in Onalaska Tuesday night.
A neighbor called 911 around 7:30 in the evening to report a fire on Flint Court.
One person was inside and was taken to be treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters believe the fire started in the kitchen, but an exact cause is still under investigation.
“It was good thinking by the neighbors, who I believe, called the incident in,” said Lt. Jeremy Southworth of the Onalaska Fire Department. “It was noted as well that inside the home, there were working smoke detectors, so that’s a bonus as well.”
The fire was put out, but crews were still on scene hours after.
The Onalaska Fire Department requested help from La Crosse and Holmen fire departments.
