Onalaska will soon begin looking for new Fire and Police chiefs

The City of Onalaska rejected the idea of combining the city’s fire and police chiefs into one position, and will soon begin searching for new leaders for each department.

Combining the administrative duties of both positions was proposed after Onalaska’s Fire and Police chiefs announced their resignations. Onalaska’s Mayor says he agreed a combined position would not be the right fit after looking into similar positions in other cities.

“We were in a very unique situation where you have both chiefs open. // Every time that happens, we’re going to look for new and better ways of doing things. We looked, it just didn’t seem to fit us at this point,” said Mayor Joe Chilsen.

The Onalaska Fire and Police Commission will soon begin looking for candidates for both chief positions.
