Onalaska students honored for French language skills

A group of area students is being recognized as some of the best in the state.

Onalaska High School’s French program competed earlier this month in a state wide French Competition.

The students took home 23 gold medals by reciting poems and sang songs in French.

Teachers say the awards show how dedicated the students are towards the language.

“It is really up to the student how much time and effort they put into it, since it is extra curricular and it is outside of class. Some students put a lot of time and effort into it, come in and practice a lot,” said Amy Ticknor, French teacher at Onalaska High School.

In April Onalaska’s french program was recognized as an ‘exemplary french program’ by the national American Association of French Teachers organization.
