Onalaska school board members will run as write-in candidates after filing error
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — Although Onalaska’s School Board has two open seats, there will only be one name on the ballot this spring.
The Government Board of Accountability upheld a challenge that would keep incumbents Ann Garrity and Tim Smaby off the ballot.
It comes after candidate Jake Speed found errors in the candidates’ nomination papers, dropping them below the required amount of signatures needed to apply.
The errors are similar to the ones made by Mayor Joe Chilsen which will keep him off the ballot in April.
The two say they understand the decision, but do plan to run as write in candidates.
“I just think Tim and I received an overwhelmingly amount of support which is driving our decision to continue to do this. There’s a lot of good things going on in Onalaska, and we would like to see that continue,” said Ann Garrity, president of the school board.
You will have a chance to vote for the candidates on April 5th.
