Onalaska residents learn about area community gardens

Mayo Clinic Health System is giving gardeners a place to plant.

The hospital held an open house today at the Onalaska Community garden on Theater Road, right next to the Franciscan Healthcare Onalaska clinic.

The gardens are thanks to  partnership between the hospital and Onalaska’s park and recreation department.

People got to see the garden up close, and learn how to get involved.

Besides access to healthy food, organizers say the garden offers a new hobby to the area residents.

“This is space for them to come and explore that hobby more. It’s also really great healing feeling of nature, getting your hands dirty enjoying the company of other gardeners,” said Cindy Shireman from Mayo Clinic Health System.
