Onalaska High named ‘Blue Ribbon School’

A local high school is being recognized as one of the nation’s best.

Onalaska High School can now call itself a National Blue Ribbon School.

The honor is based on academic success or progress in closing achievement gaps between student sub groups.

Wisconsin’s Department of Instruction nominated the high school back in January.

The school’s principal says the award should give students a sense of pride after they graduate.

“I really hope our students feel when they’re leaving Onalaska High School, regardless of what path they want to follow, that A. those doors are open to them and B. they are well prepared for those opportunities,” said principal Jared Schaffner.

Onalaska is one of three high schools in Wisconsin being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.
