Oktoberfest’s Special Fester announced during annual ball
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The first member of the Oktoberfest Royal Family has been crowned! Danielle Lass will serve as an ambassador for Oktoberfest USA and the city of La Crosse.
Danielle is a seventh grader at Onalaska Middle School and enjoys going to concerts and listing to K-Pop. She is the daughter of Rob and Stephanie Lass and the younger sister of Alec, Sam and CJ.
The 12-year-old has a rare genetic disorder called Williams syndrome. It is a genetic disorder that affects 1 in 10,000 people and is characterized by medical issues and cognitive delays, according to a press release.
She is excited to perform her duties for this year’s Oktoberfest. The role will give her lots of opportunities to do one of her favorite things– talking with others.
The Special Fester has been part of the overall festivities for 13 years. The role recognizes those with special needs as a vital part of the La Crosse community. Nominations are submitted by members of the community and the winner is chosen by a committee.
A Special Fester Carnival will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 at Copeland Park.
