Officials ID 21-year-old whose body was pulled from river
WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. — Officials identified the man whose body was pulled Monday from the Wisconsin River.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said Andreas S.C. Baban, of Chicago, Illinois, disappeared while swimming in the Wisconsin River near Wisconsin Dells Saturday at about 7:15 p.m.
The incident was reported in the Lower Dells, a few hundred yards south of the dam. Authorities said Baban was fishing on a rock island area and appeared to get caught in a current as he was swimming back to shore. Family members and witnesses tried to rescue him but couldn’t.
After several searches and the aid of side-scanning sonar, the Columbia County volunteer dive team recovered the Babn’s body from the water just after 6 p.m. Monday, less than two days after he was last seen in the river.
