No injuries in fire at UW-La Crosse residence hall

LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — Officials at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse say students were evacuated from a residence hall after an early morning fire in a basement recreation room.

No one was injured in Sunday’s fire at Drake Hall. The school says on its website that smoke alarms went off at 4:23 a.m. Students were evacuated and went to stay at nearby residence halls and apartments.

Investigators say the fire started in a couch. They are still seeking the cause.

University officials were working on a plan to allow students to return to their rooms.
