No injuries, but 8 people displaced after La Crosse fire

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — No one was injured, but eight people from three families were displaced by a fire Monday on the 600 block of Seventh Street South.

The La Crosse Fire Department responded to the fire at 12:08 a.m. Monday and arrived to find a fire on the first floor of a two-story apartment. One person was found trapped in a bedroom with a dog, and fire crews stayed with her until others extinguished the fire.

The person was then safely evacuated from the apartment with her dog. Two others were located in a second-floor apartment and also safely evacuated.

The American Red Cross is helping eight people from three families find temporary lodging and other essentials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage was limited to a small area on the first floor.

Twenty fire fighters responded, as well as the La Crosse Police Department, Tri-State Ambulance and La Crosse County Emergency Dispatch.
