No. 1-ranked Caledonia Set for State Semifinals

Warriors set to battle #4 Ottertail Central

In 2014, a shutout loss in the state semifinal round spoiled a trip to TCF Bank Stadium, and now the Warriors find themselves in a familiar spot. Paired in this year’s state semifinal against undefeated Ottertail Central, Caledonia looks to shake last year’s heartbreak.

“We do not want to lose again, especially us seniors,” said wide receiver Colton Lampert. ” It’s just go out play hard, stick to the game plan the coaches give us and just get it done.”

There is history between these two teams as Caledonia marched past the Bulldogs in the 2010 state semifinal en route to the first of three straight Class AA championships.

“They are very well coached and I can tell that they are hungry,” Warriors head coach Brent Schroeder said. “They have a little revenge factor going. I think it is a completely different ball club then we faced last time.”

Caledonia is armed with a rising star at quarterback in sophomore Owen King. King continues to improve late in the season, throwing last week for a career-high five touchdowns in the Warriors blowout win over Blue Earth Area.

“Again, it starts with the line giving Owen time and Owen does an excellent job getting us the ball,” Lampert said.

Kickoff between the two unbeaten teams is set for 1 P.M. Saturday at Mounds View High School.

“I expect a dogfight up there this time,” Schroeder said. “They got some good athletes, some good lineman and a good quarterback. They are pretty solid all the way across the board.”
