NJCAA to vote July 13 on moving fall sports to spring

The National Junior College Athletic Association, of which Western Tech is a member, is planning to vote Monday on a proposal that would push fall sports to the spring, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Western Tech currently offers baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, and volleyball.

In the NJCAA proposal, volleyball season would be pushed to the spring, and only allow 60 straight days between August and November to hold practices and scrimmages. In addition, basketball would allow a similar fall practice window between September and December, but games would not be allowed until January 29, 2021.

The proposal also includes a maximum number of games for all sports; volleyball would be limited to 20 games, baseball to 56 and basketball to 22.
