The YWCA La Crosse celebrates its CASA superheroes

CASA volunteers help abused and neglected kids

CASA for Kids hosts breakfast event

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - A breakfast this morning in La Crosse honored some local Superheroes today.

CASA for Kids, a national program housed in Y-W-C-A La Crosse, provides trained Court Appointed Special Advocates to children in the foster care system.

They send updates to the court team and submit court reports at each hearing with the intention to provide judges with a fuller picture of cases, so they are able to make better informed decisions about where children should live and who should take care of them.

"So they take an oath of service and from that point forward we assign them to work with a child who has been abused or neglected by their caregivers and are and are in the child welfare system. We pair them with that child or sibling group and from there they start making weekly visits together, " says CASA Director, Jessie Fortuna.

This year's Superhero award went to Morgan Martin who has been volunteering for CASA for 3 years.
