Riverside Park Band Shell, Veterans Memorial Pool public fundraisers get approval

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - La Crosse's Parks Department met Thursday night to vote on fundraising efforts for a pair of long-awaited projects in the city.

The Board of Park Commissioners approved the design and public fundraising plans for the Riverside Band Shell Thursday evening. With that approval, the Band Shell Consortium could soon open its fundraising effort to the public.

As an added incentive, the Consortium plans to offer donor paver bricks to those who donate more than a certain amount. Those bricks will become a part of the paths leading up to the Band Stand seating area.

The public fundraising plan for the Veterans Memorial Pool renovation also received a green light. As a part of the proposal, the Memorial Pool Campaign will also offer personalized donor bricks.

"The city is really fortunate to be able to partner with these user groups and have funding come in to assist in these facilities,” said La Crosse Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department Superintendent Jay Odegaard.

The Band Shell Consortium is raising $600,000, which will entirely fund the project.

The Memorial Pool Campaign is looking for $500,000 to add to the roughly $3-million the City has already designated for the pool's renovation. The pool is expected to be completed in May.
